2012: The End Of The World

Introduction

There have been a range of the end-of-the-world beliefs based on several falsely acclaimed astronomical alignments and calculations that signified that catastrophic events would take place on or around December 21, 2012. This date was regarded as the end-date of a cycle of 5,126 years as noted in the calendar of the Mesoamerican Long Count according to the Mayan civilization which comprises Mexico, Honduras, El Salvador, and Guatemala and cataclysmic or positive transformation events were expected to occur on that date leading to a new era both for the Earth, mankind, and other inhabitants of the earth.

Though the expected cataclysmic or positive transformation events did not occur on or around 21 December 2012 but the expected disastrous events have been captured in an American science fiction film released in 2009 and co-written and directed by Roland Emmerich.

2012: The End-of-World Prediction Refuted by Scholars and Astronomers

Several scholars from various academic fields including professional Mayanist scholars and astronomers quickly debunked the claim of any possibility of concomitant disastrous events happening on around the 21 December 2012 as fast as the predictions were being rumoured. Specifically, the Mayanist scholars declared that no classic Maya records predicted any impending catastrophe and that any thought that the calendar of the Long Count predicted an end of the world in 2012 was a misrepresentation of the culture and the history of Maya.

The Cast and Plot of the 2012 The End of the World film: The 2012, the end of the world film portrays a gory state of a world ravaged by several calamitous events such as earthquakes, fires, floods, meteor showers, and the struggle of mankind for survival in a chaotic world. The film which was directed by Roland Emmerich was produced by Sony Pictures and it stars Thandie Newton as Dr Laura Wilson, Oliver Platt, John Cusack as Jackson Curtis, Amanda Peet as Kate Curtis, Danny Glover as Thomas Wilson, and Chewetel Ejiofor as Dr Adrian Helmsley. Adrian Helmsley, an American geologist visits an Indian astrophysicist, Satnam Tsurutani in India and got to know that the temperature of the Earth’s core was gradually increasing due to the heating effects of neutrinos released by solar flare. On returning to the U.S., Helmsley sought the attention of the President, Thomas Wilson, through the Chief of Staff to the president.

Thomas Wilson began to make arrangements to save mankind from the impending doom with the help of many international leaders especially the G8 leaders with China involved by building expensive giant arks but unfortunately, only a few people were saved from the doom and the horror was eventually stopped by the efforts of the Americans.
